9 Favorite swimming spots around the world

From the glacial lagoons of Argentina to the high alpine lakes of the Dolomites, one of our favorite activities after a long hike is to find a perfectly placed body of water to plunge into to cool off and refresh.

Here are some of our favorites from our adventures over the past few years.

1. huemul lagoon | patagonia

Hike to the hidden lagoon at the base of the Huemul glacier in Argentina and go for a cool down dip. The turquoise water is colder than it looks, but always worth it!

2. Lago malghette | dolomites

An incredibly scenic spot in the Brenta Dolomites for a post-lunch full body dip
or a long leg soak.

3. rovinj rocks | croatia

At sunset or during the day, plunging into the Adriatic Sea in the charming town of Rovinj is great way to cool off in the heat of Croatia’s summer.

4. sete cidades | azores

After a hike around the caldeira’s rim in the Azores, a swim is well deserved. It’s always hard to believe that this color of water is real…

5. Camps Bay Beach | South africa

After hiking up Lion’s Head or Table Mountain in Cape Town, cooling down with a dip in the chilly water at Camps Bay Beach is one of our favorite activities. A pure white sandy beach fringed by the ocean on one side and mountains on the other, it’s an incredibly scenic for a swim, picnic or sunset.

6. lake bohinj | slovenia

Lesser known than its neighbor, Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj in the Julian Alps of Slovenia is - in our opinion - more beautiful. The water is typically chilly but always inviting.

7. MIRADOR LAS TORRES | CHILE

One of our favorite days on the W-Trek in Chile’s Torres del Paine is the hike up to the Mirador las Torres. Climbing steadily through beautiful forests and past rivers and waterfalls and eventually popping out onto a massive moraine, rewarded with a gorgeous view of the Torres, glacier and lake below is very special. The water is frigid but a welcome reward for sore legs for those brave enough to plunge in!

8. the sognefjord | norway

We love to swim in Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, the Sognefjord. After a day on the trail, a quick plunge into the refreshing water is a great way to cap off a busy day.

9. heart lake | colorado

Just below the continental divide, one of our favorite hikes and one of our favorite places for a refreshing swim. Gazing up at the high Rocky Mountain peaks as you float in the lake is a truly special experience.
